Litigation And Civil Procedure

What we do: Litigation And Civil Procedure

Emmanuel Chambers is best known for its vibrant, wide, tasking, dogged and successful litigation practice. Our core emphasis is on the development of a crop of world-class, top-notch litigators who are familiar with the practice of all superior Courts. This we achieve by exposing trainee and junior associates to contentious, sparsely-supervised practice before the courts from the earliest stages of engagement. Afe Babalola’s litigation practice permeates practically all Courts including Magistrate Courts (for small claims and criminal matters), Customary Courts (in Southern Nigeria), Area Courts (in Northern Nigeria), Sharia Courts, the High Courts, the Federal High Court, the National Industrial Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court. Our litigation practice also spreads to tribunals such as Election Petitions Tribunals, Rent Tribunals, Panels of Inquiry, Court Martials, parliamentary inquiries and labour dispute tribunals, to name a few. Afe Babalola & Co is regularly engaged to initiate and defend litigious matters before various courts and judicial tribunals. We are also regularly instructed after the fact of litigation- for enforcement and appellate proceedings. Our appellate practice, in particular is extremely occupied and one of the most vibrant in the country as our lawyers conduct proceedings before the appellate and apex courts on a very regular basis. Between the current partners in the firm alone, the firm boasts over 200 judgements of the Supreme and Appeal Courts within the last 10 years. Perhaps, the greatest testament to the firm’s indefatigable litigation practice is the fact that over 16 Emmanuelites (current and past) have attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) by active litigation practice and experience. Our belief is that the finest attributes of a legal practitioner (intellect, diligence, imaginativeness, spontaneity, erudition, clarity of thought and expression, rich reserves of knowledge, etc.) are best shown, honed and articulated by the oral and written advocacy of litigation practice. Accordingly, all our lawyers belong to the litigation and civil procedure practice group and every Emmanuelite is a thoroughbred litigator.
